The active substance in Scalibor®, deltamethrin, is released slowly and gradually, by rubbing the collar against the hair and skin of the dog’s neck and by the concentration gradient of the molecule throughout its period of activity. In addition, the active substance spreads evenly in the sebum and around the hair all over the dog’s body.
For effective protection, given the diffusion time on the animal, the collar should be placed one week before the dog is introduced into an infested environment.
There is no release by evaporation, no loss of active material and therefore no odor.
Thanks to deltamethrin, Scalibor® will have a repellent (anti-gorging) effect lasting 12 months against sandflies and 6 months against mosquitoes (Culex pipiens) 1. In addition, deltamethrin will allow the collar to kill ticks ( Ixodes ricinus; Rhipicephalus sanguineus) persistently for 6 months.
The efficacy of the repellent (anti-gorging) effect of Scalibor® against sandflies is between 94% and 98% for 12 months (laboratory, randomized, blind and controlled (placebo) study carried out on 16 dogs in Ireland in 2017) ². No other collar has demonstrated such a strong repellent effect in terms of percentage and duration of action against sandflies.
