FLUIDITY
BEAUTY
ESSENTIAL
Omega 3 are polyunsaturated essential fatty acids. They are essential because they are essential for the proper functioning of the body which is unable to produce them itself. Therefore, they must be provided by food.
Omega 3 fulfill different vital functions in immunity, inflammation, reproduction, growth, health of skin and hair, heart, kidneys, joints etc… They are necessary from fetal development until to the aging of senior animals.
Omega 3 and Omega 6 are precursors of inflammation and immunity mediators, eicosanoids. Omega 3s are anti-inflammatory and Omega 6s are pro-inflammatory. The Omega 6 production chain uses the same enzymes as that of Omega 3. There is therefore a competition for the use of enzymes between Omega 3 and Omega 6.
It is considered in dogs as in cats that the ideal ratio is 5 times more Omega 6 than Omega 3. In fact, whether in humans with their Western diet or dogs and cats with their croquettes, plates and bowls are often very unbalanced and contain far too much Omega 6 (usually 15/1 or even 20/1!). This promotes a pro-inflammatory state and the appearance of pathologies.
In certain pathologies (kidney or heart), the recommended ratio is 1/1, as much Omega 3 as Omega 6.
USE
EPA and DHA are essential for skin, heart, kidney, joint, liver, brain and immune functions. EPA and DHA are essential constituents of all cell membranes. They intervene in the mechanisms of inflammation by reducing pro-inflammatory mediators.
