Otrivine is a nasal spray based on xylometazoline (1mg / ml). In the event of a blocked nose due to a cold or sinusitis, Otrivine 1mg / ml: • Clear the nose in a few minutes. • Relieves up to 10 hours. • Helps prevent irritation of the nasal mucosa. • Use from 12 years old. • Xylometazoline has no influence on the function of the ciliary epithelium.
The presence of sorbitol and methylhydroxypropylcellulose as excipients in Otrivine may help prevent dryness of the nasal mucosa.
Indication
non-allergic rhinitis (head colds)
seasonal and non-seasonal allergic rhinitis
sinusitis (facilitates the elimination of secretions)
otitis media (as an adjunct to nasopharyngeal decongestion)
Short-term symptomatic treatment (maximum 3 to 5 days) of nasal congestion in certain conditions such as: – non-allergic rhinitis (head cold) – seasonal and non-seasonal allergic rhinitis – sinusitis (facilitates the elimination of secretions ) – otitis media (as an adjuvant for nasopharyngeal decongestion)
The excipients sorbitol and methylhydroxypropylcellulose present in Otrivine can help prevent dryness of the nasal mucosa.
Like all nasal preparations containing a vasoconstrictor, Otrivine cannot be used as maintenance treatment.
Otrivine 1 mg / ml is intended for adults and children from 12 years of age.
Use
Adults and children over 6 years old
2 to 3 drops in each nostril, 3 to 4 x per day
Minimum interval between 2 applications: 4 to 6 hours
Nasal use Otrivine 1 mg / ml solution for nasal spray for adults and children from 12 years old: – 1 spray in each nostril – 3 times a day. Between 2 administrations – an interval of 8 to 10 hours must be observed – no more than 3 administrations per nostril per day.
Use of the nasal spray solution: The spray pump ensures good distribution over the surface of the mucosa. The dosing mechanism allows precise dosing and excludes the possibility of unintentional overdose. Be careful not to spray in the eyes. Remove the protective cap. Before the first application, pump a few times until an even spray is obtained. The nasal spray is then ready for use. 1. Blow your nose. 2. Hold the bottle upright, place your thumb under the bottle and hold the spray tip between 2 fingers. 3. Tilt your head slightly forward and insert the spray tip into one nostril. 4. Spray while breathing gently through your nose. 5. Clean the spray tip and allow it to dry before replacing the protective cap.
To prevent possible spread of infection, the vial can only be used by 1 person.
Otrivine can only be used during the symptomatic period (maximum 3 to 5 days).
A doctor should be consulted if the condition for which Otrivine is used does not improve markedly after 5 days or if new symptoms develop.
Composition
Otrivine, 1 mg / ml, solution: Xylometazoline hydrochloride 1 mg per ml (which corresponds to 0.87 mg / ml xylometazoline). (25 µg of xylometazoline hydrochloride per drop, 40 drops per ml, 140 µg of xylometazoline hydrochloride per spray).
Excipients with known effect: This medicinal product contains benzalkonium chloride as a preservative. This substance may be irritating and cause skin reactions.
