Substitution of physiological thyroid hormone deficiency in hypothyroidism
Suppression of TSH production by the pituitary gland
Ethyroid goiter evidenced by the secretory response to TSH after oral or intravenous administration of TRH
Prevention and treatment of goitrogenic complications following the administration of antithyroid drugs in hyperthyroidism
Prophylactic treatment after resection of a goiter or during a total thyroidectomy for thyroid carcinoma to reduce the risk of recurrence
Use
Initial dose: 25 – 50 mcg per day.
Then, this dose should be increased in steps of 25 mcg every 2 to 4 weeks depending on the clinical symptoms.
Maintenance dose: 100 – 200 mcg per day
If you have severe hypothyroidism or if you have symptoms of angina, cardiac decompensation or arrhythmia: start treatment with a very low dose (12.5 mcg / day or 25 mcg every 2 days) and increase this one very gradually
For newborns and children with congenital hypothyroidism: the starting dose is 10 to 15 mcg per kg of body weight per day for the first 3 months
For children with juvenile hypothyroidism: the recommended starting dose is 12.5 to 50 mcg per day.
Maintenance dose is generally 100 to 150 mcg per m² of body surface
Suppression and prophylaxis
Maintenance dose: 100 – 200 mcg per day
Once a day, usually in the morning on an empty stomach, half an hour before a meal
If necessary, the tablets can be dissolved in a little water (10 to 15 ml) and the suspension thus obtained, which should be freshly prepared, should be administered with additional liquid (5 to 10 ml).
