Do you know what gingivitis is? Gingivitis is inflammation of the gum tissue. It causes swelling of the gums, redness as well as bleeding. Gingivitis can affect people of all ages. Initially it can go unnoticed because it is often painless but as it progresses it can cause a lot of pain. The main cause of this pathology is due to an accumulation of dental plaque (tartar) at the level of the gum line. This build-up causes bacteria to proliferate, which then causes inflammation of the gums. This inflammation can also be due to a hereditary factor, to the taking of certain drugs, to the incorrect installation of a dental prosthesis. Pregnant women are also more prone to gum inflammation due to hormonal changes. But no stress, luckily gingivitis is reversible, a visit to your dentist and good oral hygiene can help you get rid of it.
Here are some useful tips to limit the onset of gingivitis:
Brush your teeth at least twice a day, morning and evening, for a minimum of 2 minutes
Use dental floss or interdental brushes to loosen food residues stuck between teeth
Avoid smoking
Limit the consumption of alcohol, acidic foods, sugary drinks (such as sodas)
Regularly consult your dentist
Possibly use a mouthwash intended to reduce dental plaque.
