St. John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum)

St. John’s Wort is a herbaceous plant native to Europe and Central Asia. It is found in abundance at the edge of paths, in dry meadows and clearings. The leaves have numerous transparent secretory pockets which give the impression of perforations (hence the name thousand “pertuis”, narrow passages or holes in Old French while the edges of the leaves and flowers are dotted with black dots.
