Beech, called Beech in French, is the Bach flower of tolerance
The common beech (Beech in English) or Fagus sylvatica is a tree in the Fagaceae family. Its particularity is to live away from many plants, because few can grow at its base. With a rather dominant appearance, it is vulnerable to strong winds due to the superficiality of its roots. The common beech is a tree that is frequently found alone, in beech forests or near Scots pine and spruce. Benefiting from the protection of other trees, it can reach a height of forty meters and live between two hundred and three hundred years.
Botanically, the beech has blackish-gray bark, smooth and thin, which is frequently covered with epiphytic plants. Its deciduous foliage is composed of alternate light green, crenate, oval-shaped leaves, which take on coppery tones in autumn. This monoecious tree bears male and female flowers – catkins – which bloom in spring just after leafing out. Its fruits, called beechnuts, are achenes whose physical appearance evokes small chestnuts. The common beech begins to fruit when it reaches around sixty years old.
