Otrivine is a nasal decongestant based on xylometazoline (0.5mg / ml). In the event of a blocked nose due to a cold or sinusitis, Otrivine 0.5mg / ml: • Clear the nose in a few minutes. • Relieves up to 10 hours. • Helps prevent irritation of the nasal mucosa. • For children from 2 to 12 years old. • Xylometazoline has no influence on the function of the ciliary epithelium.
The presence of sorbitol and methylhydroxypropylcellulose as excipients in Otrivine may help prevent dryness of the nasal mucosa.
Indication
non-allergic rhinitis (head colds)
seasonal and non-seasonal allergic rhinitis
sinusitis (facilitates the elimination of secretions)
otitis media (as an adjunct to nasopharyngeal decongestion)
Short-term symptomatic treatment (maximum 3 to 5 days) of nasal congestion in certain conditions such as: – non-allergic rhinitis (head cold) – seasonal and non-seasonal allergic rhinitis – sinusitis (facilitates the elimination of secretions ) – otitis media (as an adjuvant for nasopharyngeal decongestion)
The excipients sorbitol and methylhydroxypropylcellulose present in Otrivine can help prevent dryness of the nasal mucosa.
Like all nasal preparations containing a vasoconstrictor, Otrivine cannot be used as maintenance treatment.
Otrivine 0.5 mg / ml is intended for children from 2 to 12 years old inclusive.
Use
Children from 2 to 6 years old
1 to 2 drops in each nostril, 1 to 3 times a day
Minimum interval between 2 applications: 8 to 10 hours
Nasal use Otrivine 0.5 mg / ml solution for nasal instillation for children from 2 to 12 years:
Children from 2 to 6 years old: under the supervision of parents. 1 to 2 drops, 1 to 3 times a day. Between 2 administrations, an interval of 8 to 10 hours must be observed. No more than 3 administrations per nostril per day.
Children 6 to 12 years old: under parental supervision. 2 to 4 drops in each nostril, 2 to 3 times a day. Between 2 administrations, an interval of 8 to 10 hours must be observed. No more than 3 administrations per nostril per day.
Using the nasal instillation solution: 1. Blow your nose. 2. Tilt your head as far back as possible – as far as is comfortable – or, if you are lying in a bed, let your head hang over the edge of the bed. 3. Administer the drops into each nostril and keep the head tilted back for a little while, so that the drops can be distributed throughout the nasal cavity. 4. Clean the dropper and allow it to dry before returning it to the bottle.
To prevent possible spread of infection, the vial can only be used by 1 person.
Composition
Otrivine, 0.5 mg / ml, solution: Xylometazoline hydrochloride 0.5 mg per ml (corresponding to 0.44 mg / ml xylometazoline). (12.5 µg of xylometazoline hydrochloride per drop, 40 drops per ml).
Excipients with known effect: This medicinal product contains benzalkonium chloride as a preservative. This substance may be irritating and cause skin reactions.
